Brady Awards PowerPoint
Every year, the Methodist Sports Medicine Research and Education gives out Brady Comeback Awards to exceptional high school and collegiate who have come back from injury in inspiring ways. This year, I had the privilege of designing a PowerPoint presentation that would run during the awards ceremony. Below is a sampling of the slides. All stock photos are from my personal photography library and logos were provided by the cooperating organizations.

As it is often said, music is food for the soul. It can inspire, uplift, amuse, and charm us. Good music is priceless. Such is the gift given to us by the world-famous composer and songwriter Cole Porter. Cole, an Indiana legend, was born in the small town of Peru in 1891. The magic began after his first piece was published when he was only ten, and his determination catapulted him from there. Attending Yale, he wrote two of the university’s best-known football songs. His other well-known songs include “Let’s Do It, Let’s Fall In Love,” and “I Get A Kick Out Of You.” Porter was married to a beautiful, wealthy woman named Linda Lee Thomas, and together they lived lives of socialites in Paris and New York. However, not everything in his life was this glitzy and blissful. In 1937, he was thrown from a horse and suffered injuries to both legs that would haunt him for the rest of his life. But it was through misfortune that he was motivated. It was after this accident that he wrote two of his most successful works. “Anything Goes” and “Kiss Me, Kate,” the latter of which was based on Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew, lit up Broadway. These classics continue to dazzle today as Porter is honored with a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame. Finally, this artistic master is getting the recognition he deserves.

Online Writing
My online writing experience has been decidedly diverse. I worked at Methodist Sports Medicine Center, writing a year's worth of blogs for their myfoothurts.info website. The concept of the blogs was to take a complicated foot or ankle injury and explain it in a way that a layperson could understand. It was challenging yet exciting to take concepts like ankle sprains and Lis Franc injuries ("what's that?" Exactly.) and make them not only understandable but fun to read about. In contrast, my other blogging experience has been distinctly non-medical. As an intern for Indiana Humanities, I was able to write a blog on the second-annual local food and art convention, FoodCon2. Experiencing, photographing, and writing about an event that mixed food and art, two of my favorite things, was a joy. Click on the right picture to read the FoodCon2 blog.

Multimedia
I created these video recaps of Indiana Humanities events, which will be used as examples of their programs. The videos are intended to entice new partnerships, support, and funding for future programming and events.

Graphic Design
Novel Conversations Advertisements
While interning with Indiana Humanities, I was asked to come up with a design for an ad that would run in the Urban Times, an alternative news newspaper that circulates in the Indianapolis area. I had to apply the design aesthetic to each different ad dimension that was available. Here are a few examples, all created in Adobe Illustrator.
Potato Designs
These designs are taken from a project that required use of the potato in a series of historically influenced designs. These two mixed the spud with the WPA posters aesthetic of the 1940s (left) and the Dada style of the 1910s (right).
Photography
Butler University Nutcracker - Indy Arts Council Super Choice
I absolutely loved collaborating with Jordan College of Fine Arts Event Manager Rissa Guffy and dancer Morgan Sicklick on this project to promote The Nutcracker as an Indy Arts Council Super Choice event.
Colts Vs. Ravens
I had opportunity to shadow Colts photographer A.J. Macht for the Colts vs. Falcons game at Lucas Oil Stadium. Despite the disappointing loss for this Colts fan, I had a blast and learned so much on those sidelines.
Creek Stomping
Outdoorsy by nature, I was able to let my adventurous spirit inform my art in this photo that I took while exploring the creek behind my childhood home. The localized blue represents the color and fun that you can find when you traipse right out of your comfort zone to go exploring.
Website
I created this website through Weebly, but I heavily edited the HTML and CSS in order to customize headers and footers, colors, typography, layout, and graphics. I knew that the only way for this website to be truly ME would be to have full control over the look and feel. I was able to create the website in a way to fit in with my own branding, creating a Maria-specific look to present to the world.
